
The I.A.P.T. is the only research institute within the broader public sector in Greece dedicated to the quality, safety, preservation, and processing of plant- and animal-based foods. Its facilities include three accredited laboratories specializing in microbiological analyses, physicochemical analyses, and genetic identification of agricultural products. A significant number of programs funded by the European Union and the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT) have been implemented at the Institute or are currently underway. Through these programs, the Institute has established strong collaborations with universities and research centers in Greece and abroad. The research outcomes have been published in international and national journals and presented at conference proceedings.
The Institute also maintains ongoing collaborations with the Greek food industry in various forms (research projects, partnership agreements, service provision). In particular, its services contribute significantly to solving issues in the production process, ensuring food quality and hygiene, and developing new products using modern methods and technologies.
The Institute is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and employs both traditional and advanced techniques, including PCR, gel electrophoresis, PFGE, DGGE, HPLC, GC, GC/MS, Ultra High-Pressure Systems (the only fully equipped system of its kind in a Greek laboratory), microscopes, and more.
